Assessement task 2

2016-04-13 14.02.01[1] The community that I have chosen is a Facebook page called Lovers parrots and the administrators of the page dedicate their time to post videos and pictures of all sorts of parrot lovers like myself to see. The way they operate is people from the world message the page pictures but mostly videos of them and their parrots patting them or talking to them or just displaying tricks. It’s also beneficial for education regarding caring for birds and how their lifestyle in general should be handled. In addition you can also learn different way to stimulate parrots physically and mentally via comments left by people under videos as well as how to tame them.

This is beneficial tome due to the fact that it’s the first time I take full responsibility looking after a parrot. After discovering the page I found myself to be rather attached to it and always looking forward to videos sent in by fellow parrot lovers. My contributions to the page have been rather successful but not to the fullest but will remain an active member for times to come. I contributed a total of three things one being a meme I generated, an article outlining ways for first time parrot owners to get started due to the fact I’m not the only one that may be a beginner and lastly and what proved successful was a video of me patting my bird. It was uploaded by the admin and got a total of 583 likes and 17 comments and 5.7K views and counting. Posting this video has benefited me in terms of some questions raised in the comments section regarding whether my bird is a male or female. It has sparked me to investigate this matter to finally come to an accurate conclusion.

Barry Jones states “Any technological change has an equal capacity for the enhancement or degradation of life depending on how it is being used” (Andrew,Murphie,Potts Culture and Technology pg22). From my perspective I agree due to the fact that technology has indeed played a positive part in modern days. Examples include productive and effective marketing activities for businesses through the likes of social media. In terms of benefits from a life perspective it has done its part via websites whereby people can give in charity for a cause through online payments. An example is the Al Ihsan foundation who look after orphans or online petitions like change.org. They have the ability to attract a wide audience and can bring a sense of happiness to oneself and belonging. However technology has its negatives and examples include hackers who access confidential info belonging to an entity which may affect a business financially or even increase laziness within a nation. After all things such as online shopping or TaskRabbit isn’t really helping us physically. In addition Facebook can be used to spread hate via formed pages targeting islam.

In conclusion I do plan to engage more with technology and communities of my liking but not let it take over me.

My special little guy

Lets face it, pets are like family no matter what they may be either its a dog, cat or even a parrot. I’ve only had my little Sassa for about 3 months now and the bond and trust has definitely been established. He will climb onto my shoulder and eat from my hand with no hesitation and even get overly excited when I return back home from university or work and even from a short trip to the gym. I will walk around my house wether its indoors or out in the backyard and he will not fly away from my shoulders, my birdy he loves me too much and safe to say he kind of is becoming my little companion.

This new bond though is not new to me, I did have the exact same species of bird when I was 14 but died unfortunately due to sickness. This bird too was very attached and full of love also just like my current bird is gradually becoming to be. having this bird is fun and exciting due to the happiness he brings in my household but also teaches people like myself a little lesson in life. The way I see it and coming from personal experience and seeing others face similar situations to mine, we must always deep within our hearts believe in our selves that we can truly succeed in what we aspire to be. After all a bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because her trust is not on the branch itself but on its own wings. hope that motivates my readers for today and as usual off to work and a good old gym session to follow, peace.

Its just different when it comes from a girl.

I must say my morning has definietly started off on a good note, walking out of my home towards my car and saying hello to a random yet attractive girl only to get in return “nice muscles”. I just hope i don’t get a flock of females next morning all wanting to see the “nice muscles”. I’ll be the first to admit that yes it does boost my ego a bit and does make me feel positive about myself but i guess its just human nature, however i do certainly keep myself humble. The way i go about doing this is to ensure i make time to share my advice to young gym goers and teach proper techniques on how to train certain areas. i do this only because i was once in the same place as them, starting off and not a clue in the world on how to train yet know anything about dieting.

This rather awkward, funny moment prompted me to check out the gym memes page on Facebook and unexpectedly left me smiling like an idiot. from various memes to videos covering almost every aspect of a gym goers lifestyle. It hit me later on in the train ride that i am part of a community i barely new about and i am free to voice my opinion in various forms from plain text to an actual meme. from a personal perspective i should invest time into checking out Facebook a little more often, i mean i don’t want to miss out on the hilarious material. Who knows i may create more future memes to comment under the pages material but for now heres this meme i generated that i sent to the page, lets hope its funny enough to get posted.

I was totally unfamiliar with blogging before I started this course nor was I ever interested in starting up one. I find myself to be a rather unique person with different hobbies and interests to most so posting content I’m interested in and will interest my future readers was an issue I had let alone the fact I’m a rather private person . However though as time progressed I began to realise I took up this course and needed to fulfil its requirements. Honestly I wasn’t really interested in the academic side of things, rather my intention was to post content purely related to me and my interest and at times inner thoughts to see if anyone can has the same thinking or interested as me. Thankfully I didn’t have much trouble getting my blog started, I applied widgets to my sidebar with ease and a photo gallery for everyone to see photos of me at the Arnold classic which was an awesome event.

I found blogging first to be a daunting thing as my content is going to be visible to just about everyone who has internet, I was afraid my work would not be on the level of other bloggers I’ve seen, then I realised that a blog is a tool to convey your ideas and your interests and really no one can criticize you for just being open so I began to be more comfortable with blogging as of late though I don’t blog as often due to work commitments. Hypertext is something I was never familiar with and still to this day I’m not 100 percent with it but I know its purpose and will eventually will familiarise myself with it.

Network literacy is also something complex to me which I still need to get my head around but I do know that once I become part of an online community of bloggers it will make its way through my mind. Adrian Mile summarizes it perfectly as contributing and creating on equal parts. Through such sharing the distinction between consuming and creating content dissolves so unlike print literacy in network literacy we become peers in the system and indeed to be good at network literacy is to contribute as much as it is to consume (Miles 2007). So by linking websites and articles etc I will be contributing and encouraging readers to explore further.

I’ve learnt that to sway people to your blog posts you can’t just write words and post. To engage readers you must make the most of what blogging has to offer by applying photos and links and such. By doing this it may be I have a chance that I may get a few comments or shares. One thing I found interesting was hootsuite considering I never knew about it before and wish to implement it or even recommend it to others because of its productivity for businesses. Therefore I look forward to creating better content and mould deeper into the blogosphere.

Hootsuite, the key to convinience.

I don’t have much social media accounts so hoot suite isn’t really that useful for me as I only have a Facebook account that I’m barely on. I do however have friends whom are visible on almost every aspect of social media from instagram to snapchat etc. I can only imagine how difficult the task is of managing all of them and being active on all of them. In this day and age business’s utilise social media heavily as part of their marketing implementations  and most use a variety of them mainly focusing on the main popular ones such as Facebook.

From a business point of view i can totally understand managing all can be a rather confusing tasks in which one can forget certain things or not show much attention to one social media site. so a site like hoot suite  is extremely convenient for businesses to manage their social media sites simply because of the fact that its a all in one approach. rather than logging into each social site you, you only log in once and every social media platform you’ve synced is a click away.

from a personal perspective, I one day dream of opening my own gym and once that hopefully plays out hoot suite is something i would more than likely employ to manage my  social media sites. Speaking of gym its chest day today, time to go pump the weights, tc.

Respect/Attention, earned not given.

I attended the Arnold Classic expo this past weekend which was a weekend I had off in a while. I enjoyed myself to the fullest and is defiantly a highlight of 2016. I got to see Arnold from a distance, Kai Green, Phil Heath etc. who all happen to be professional bodybuilders. In addition I went a bit out of control and  bought 4 pairs of gym shoes in 2 days, talk about spoiling yourself. Overall I had a pleasant time however I do want to talk about some lessons I learnt from the event.

You see I never have looked the way I did in the photo, I had past which was full of regret and bad habits which was taking a toll on my health. it came to the extent that I literally only power walked for 5 mins and passed out on the floor. I went saw the doctor and told me you need to change, your just below the obese line and your not looking good. Those words hit me like a truck, something needed to be done. this moment changed  y life completely forever as I began to change my habits and become more active.

I stand before you today as a changed and rather different man, how do I know? just ask the old mates I seen at the expo. I bumped into a lot of old friends from high school and early days of university at the Arnold expo and they couldn’t believe their eyes and I couldn’t believe mine. “moey how did you do it” “moey your looking good” “wow moey you’ve put on size” all these comments and attention bring me much joy due to the fact that I worked really hard for the way I look. The fact that people began to respect me a lot more and pleading for advice from me means a lot to a guy who used to stuff his face with chocolate chip biscuits after school. Therefore I truly am a believer in “hard work pays off” and that respect is earned, not given. Speaking of hard work, off to work now than gym later……catch.

Take me Back to San Remo

My trip down to San Remo late last year is exactly what a guy like me who works non stop needs. Its beauty and serenity Is enough for a tough fit minded active bloke like myself to just sit, relax and indulge in some chocolate. Its a shame that its the fist time I visit this place because I only live an 1 hour and a half away from there compared to other places I’ve travelled to. For me Green and Blue will have to be my favourite colours due to their calm relaxing feel they offer for an outdoorsy person like myself.

This is why I have chosen my theme for my blog which is mostly green due to the bushy greenery environment I was surrounded by. I do wish to return to San Remo some time soon and perhaps write a blog about my time there and activities I got up to. Anyways its with great sadness to say that I must log off now and head to work for another long slow night ahead. tc.

If ya like it than you should put a double C on it

Lets face it, there are some sneaky people out there that try and steal ideas similar to what Apple supposedly done to Microsoft in regards to touch screen smart phones. Today our tutor recommended to us that we create a creative commons (CC) licence widget to our blog homepage. The reason for this is simply that no one steals our ideas or state them in their own academic work or blogs without proper referencing/citation. Though my blogs are personal at the moment, in the future my CC licence may come into good use.

Though I feel its a right for myself and fellow student s to look elsewhere for ideas/thoughts/applications (which we are allowed) it is only fair and ethical that we must reference the authors work if needed to and avoid any backlash. The chance for authors finding out about plagiarism is high due to resources such as TurnItIn etc. that can track down who plagiarised and exactly where in a certain area of a particular report/essay. Therefore its best to express yourself and your thoughts with references applied where applicable. Any ways same old Moey heading to work to make paper, catch.

Future Worries, Is there hope?

As a student doing their last semester at RMIT University, I am about to make the transition  from student to employment, however unfortunately this leap comes without the faith. As I’ve experienced and my peers have experienced, it just seems impossible to find employment which is detrimental to my motivation and hope to achieve my goals. I guess working my normal job is ok but I didn’t spend this time at university for nothing, myself and my fellow student want to be able to put their knowledge and skills into practice.

In recent weeks though I have tried to put together some contingency plans to ensure once my time at university concludes I have something to fall back on. So now my goals have switched from the corporate world to things a little different that will hopefully make me stable throughout my life. In order to achieve this my mind must be focused at all times and hard work is a must as well as being optimistic. I’m always working my normal job to make cash to aid me in whatever I need to accomplish the things I want and put aside some for my future.

I am motivated and driven because I know I have the support and ready to make the transition with more faith to my leap as compared to past weeks. Any ways off to work now, till next time.
